Do You Still Need CE? Florida's 10-Year Exemption

If you have held an active Florida cosmetology or barber license continuously for at least 10 years and no discipline has been imposed against it, you are exempt from continuing education under SB 382, effective July 1, 2024.

All of these must be true

  1. Your license is active.
  2. You have held it continuously for at least 10 years.
  3. No discipline has been imposed against the license.

The Board of Cosmetology states that SB 382, signed May 17, 2024, exempts licensees who meet those tests. It took effect July 1, 2024. The exemption covers the Board of Cosmetology and the Barbers' Board, among other DBPR boards.

Log in to your MyFloridaLicense account, or search your license on the DBPR license verification portal. The Board says your exemption status shows on your record: verify a license.

Not exempt yet

If your license is under 10 years old, lapsed at any point, or has discipline on record, you still need CE. Cosmetology and specialist requirements. Barber requirements.

Who is exempt from Florida cosmetology or barber CE?

A licensee of the Board of Cosmetology or the Barbers' Board who holds an active license, has held it continuously for at least 10 years, and has had no discipline imposed against it. The exemption took effect July 1, 2024.
